Biography

Viki Kumar Prasad joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of Calgary in July 2024 as an Assistant Professor. He leads the Prasad Research Group, where he oversees the research development and application of novel computational chemistry methodologies. Prior to this, Viki served as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Toronto from 2022 to 2024, working with Hans-Arno Jacobsen in the Middleware Systems Research group. His postdoctoral research focused on applying quantum computing to predict chemical properties through interdisciplinary collaboration. Viki earned his PhD in Theoretical Quantum Chemistry in 2021 from the University of British Columbia, where he developed new quantum chemical methods for efficient and accurate electronic structure modeling. He also holds an MSc in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and a BSc in Chemistry from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. His research interests include Quantum Computing, Machine Learning, and Quantum Chemistry, with a focus on developing quantum machine learning models and optimizing quantum resources for chemical applications. He has received several awards, including the Data Sciences Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship.
