Dr. Vikram Kaushal

Biography

Vikram Kaushal is a Senior Lecturer at the Manchester School of Architecture, where his artistic practice intersects with teaching in live performance and interactive media design. He founded Logan & Wilcox, a community arts cultural consultancy, and has completed studies in architecture. His diverse work includes participation in projects such as the ‘Every Child Matters Agenda’ and documentaries for Channel 4 and BBC. As an artist-in-residence, Kaushal designs immersive environments that engage audiences with dynamic video, biofeedback, and real-time responsive technologies. Drawing on British cybernetics, he explores the playful use of technology to create new shared experiences. Biofeedback plays a key role in his work, enabling deeply personal, interactive moments during live performances. His core focus is on creating shared collective experiences that examine performance, space, and technology to foster community connections. Kaushal's work invites audiences to participate actively, reshaping technological environments to bring people together. His projects often inhabit disused buildings, car parks, and railway arches, transforming these spaces into platforms for collective engagement. His research, informed by spatial sensitivity, investigates feedback-driven environments and challenges perceptions of space. He has exhibited and performed regionally, nationally, and internationally, contributing to the ongoing dialogue about technology's role in contemporary art and architecture.
