Dr. Viktoria Wagner

Biography

Viktoria Wagner leads the Wagner Ecology Lab at the University of Alberta, specializing in plant community ecology. Her research aims to understand how invasive non-native plants and human pressures affect biological components of habitats, particularly under the stress of global change. The lab's work emphasizes biodiversity functions and rare habitats that are often poorly studied, with a focus on grasslands – ecosystems that are vital yet face unprecedented threats from farming, climate change, and the introduction of non-native species. Through comparative frameworks and data mining, the lab tackles significant ecological questions across western Canada, adjacent states, and parts of Europe and Central Asia. Wagner is committed to advancing the field of ecology through both field observations and experimental research methods.
