Dr. Viktoria Wahlström

Biography

Viktoria Wahlström is a Research Fellow at the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health at Umeå University. Her research focuses on work environment health within office settings, particularly exploring ergonomics, physical strain, and the impacts of work on health. She aims to enhance the understanding of how physical loads can affect long-term health and identify factors that contribute to sustainable working lives in physically demanding jobs such as those in construction, commercial kitchens, and cleaning services. Wahlström leads the AktiKon research group, investigating how hybrid office arrangements influence work environments, health, productivity, and the adaptation opportunities for people with disabilities. Her approach includes developing tools to assess and evaluate office environments within the context of meeting the needs of end-users. With clinical experience as a physiotherapist in primary care and private practice, she has worked extensively in the areas of work environment, rehabilitation, and health promotion. Furthermore, she measures physical activity and physical strain using technical devices such as accelerometers in her research. She also teaches ergonomics within the master's program focused on working life health and supervises students in both medical and master's programs.
