Vilceu Bordignon obtained his PhD in 1999 and completed postdoctoral training in biomedical sciences in 2002 at the University of Montreal. He holds a DVM and MSc in veterinary sciences from Brazil. In July 2002, he joined McGill University’s Department of Animal Science as an Associate Professor, where he is also the Director of the McGill Large Animal Research Unit. His lab has produced cloned transgenic pigs in Canada using somatic cell nuclear transfer techniques. His current research program focuses on reproductive biology and animal biotechnology, investigating early-stage embryos and their coping mechanisms under stressful conditions. He studies cell reprogramming regulated by embryos produced through somatic cell nuclear transfer and employs genome editing tools like the CRISPR/Cas system to create gene-edited embryos in live pigs for developmental and pathophysiology research. Bordignon is actively involved in several scientific communities including the McGill Centre for Research on Reproduction and Development and the International Embryo Technology Society.
