Biography

Vinayak Agarwal is an Assistant Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research focuses on (meta)genomics, biochemistry, structural mechanistic enzymology, mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry, and natural product chemistry. He aims to understand how natural products, which are organic molecules produced by living organisms such as bacteria and plants, can inform the development of antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals. His work is particularly relevant in addressing the global epidemic of antibiotic-resistant pathogens by exploring the biosynthetic processes of natural products. Agarwal holds a Postdoctoral degree from the University of California San Diego, a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and both a B.Tech. and M.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Through his research, he seeks to exploit nature's synthetic capabilities to find innovative applications for natural products in biology and medicine.
