Biography

Vincent Bijman is a PhD candidate in Environmental History at Maastricht University. His current project focuses on the history of science, management, and cultural representation of invasive animals. This research is part of the VICI project, 'Moving Animals: A history of Science, Media and Policy in the 20th century.' Bijman is analyzing case studies of the Indian mongoose, sea lamprey, and ruddy duck, employing empirical lenses to illustrate how these animals have been portrayed as problematic invasive species that are subject to extensive control efforts. Vincent began his PhD journey in March 2020 and has previously worked as a Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, teaching various undergraduate courses on European contemporary history and academic research skills. He holds an MA in Research History and an MEd in History Education, both obtained from the University of Amsterdam.
