Vincent Bijman is a PhD candidate in Environmental History at Maastricht University. His current research project examines the history of science and management of cultural representations of 'invasive animals'. This work is part of the VICI project titled 'Moving Animals: A history of Science, Media and Policy in the 20th century'. His case studies include the Indian mongoose, sea lamprey, and ruddy duck, using empirical lenses to elucidate how these animals have been framed as problematic 'invasive species' that warrant extensive control efforts. Since starting his PhD in March 2020, Bijman has also served as a Teaching Assistant in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, where he teaches various undergraduate courses related to European contemporary history and academic research skills.
