Dr. Vincent Falanga

Biography

Vincent Falanga, MD, FACP, is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Dermatology at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. With a remarkable career spanning over two decades, Dr. Falanga has been dedicated to advancing the field of dermatology through innovative research and clinical practice. His academic journey began at Harvard Medical School, where he earned his MD before undertaking specialized training in Internal Medicine and Dermatology at the University of Miami and the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Falanga has made significant contributions to the field, particularly in wound healing and the application of growth factors in treating non-healing wounds. His groundbreaking research culminated in FDA approval for bioengineered skin to enhance wound closure. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he has held leadership positions including Director of the Boston University Medical Students Ambulatory Medical Clerkship and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at Roger Williams Medical Center. Throughout his career, he has secured over $45 million in research funding, predominantly from the National Institutes of Health. His leadership in the field is further exemplified by his past role as President of the Wound Healing Society and his commitment to mentoring the next generation of dermatologists.
