Biography

Vincent Gélinas-Lemaire specializes in French literature from 1945 to the present, with a particular focus on the representation of space in catastrophe narratives. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Romance Languages and Literatures from Harvard University, as well as an M.A. in French literature from Université de Montréal. He authored the monograph "Le Récit architecte: cinq aspects de l’espace," published by Classiques Garnier in 2019, which offers new tools for describing the contrasts between fictional environments, whether large or small, through storytelling. His current book project investigates the resurgence of the poetics of ruin in contemporary novels, aiming to map the literary and cultural roots of this motif and expand the scope of accounts describing the forms of contagion in collapsing spaces, bodies, societies, and history. Dr. Gélinas-Lemaire has published numerous articles and book chapters concentrating on Québécois and Franco-Canadian authors from the Quiet Revolution to the present. He is currently involved in a research project titled "Contemporary Poetics of Ruin" under the SSHRC Insight Grant (2021-2026).
