Biography

Vincent Hutchings is a renowned professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan, holding the position of Diversity Social Transformation Professor and Hanes Walton, Jr. Collegiate Professor. His research interests encompass public opinion, elections, voting behavior, and African American politics. He authored a book published by Princeton University Press titled 'Public Opinion and Democratic Accountability: Citizens Learn Politics', which explores how citizens monitor and influence the voting behavior of their elected representatives. Hutchings also investigates the influence of the size of the African American constituency in congressional districts on legislative responsiveness to Black interests. His recent research has been published in prestigious journals, including the Journal of Politics and the American Political Science Review, where he collaborated with notable scholars on projects concerning campaign communications and racial dynamics in political decision-making. Hutchings has received multiple grants from the National Science Foundation and has served as the Principal Investigator for the American National Election Study for the 2012 election cycle. He teaches various courses related to African American politics, race, and political processes.
