Biography

Vincent Marchesi is an Anthony N. Brady Professor Emeritus in the Department of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate education at Yale College (BA 1957) and obtained a D.Phil. from Oxford University (1961). He earned his MD from Yale School of Medicine in 1963. Dr. Marchesi trained in anatomical pathology at Washington University from 1963 to 1965, and subsequently spent a post-doctoral year at Rockefeller University with George Palade. He served in the U.S. Public Health Service at the National Institutes of Health from 1966 to 1972. In 1972, he was recruited to Yale by Lewis Thomas and became the chairman of the Department of Pathology and Pathologist-in-Chief at Yale New Haven Hospital. In 1991, he became the director of the Boyer Center for Molecular Medicine. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine. Dr. Marchesi's research focuses on Alzheimer's disease, investigating the pathological processes involved in neuronal cell death and the potential role of auto-antibodies against amyloid beta peptides.
