Biography

Holder of a doctorate in veterinary medicine from the École nationale vétérinaire d'Alfort and a doctorate in life sciences from the University of Paris IV, Dr. Poitout was a researcher at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research and an investigator at the Pacific Northwest Research Institute in Seattle. Before joining the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal and the research center of the CHUM in 2005, he was an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Washington. He held the position of Director of Research and Innovation at the CHUM for nearly 10 years before accepting the Vice-Rectorate of Research and Innovation at the University of Montreal. His research mainly focuses on type 2 diabetes, a field in which he is recognized internationally, and he held the Canada Research Chair on Diabetes and Beta-Cell Function from 2006 to 2020. As of June 1, 2025, Vincent Poitout serves as Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at the University of Montreal, where he coordinates all scientific activities of the University.
