Vinh Nguyen is a Professor in the School of Chemistry at the University of New South Wales, where he has been since 2015. Born in Vietnam, he studied industrial chemistry at the University of New South Wales before moving to the Australian National University to undertake a PhD in organic chemistry under the supervision of Professor Michael Sherburn. His research focuses on developing new synthetic methodologies and applying them to natural product synthesis. After completing his PhD, he worked on organocatalysis in Germany as part of an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship. In 2013, he started his independent research group at Curtin University, where he continued to explore organocatalysis and related fields. By 2019, he began an ARC Future Fellowship, leading to his promotion to Associate Professor in 2022 and to Professor in 2026. His current research interests include organocatalysis, aromatic cation activation, synthesis of naturally occurring bioactive compounds, and asymmetric synthesis in medicinal chemistry.
