Biography

Vinny Gupta is an Assistant Professor in Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Waterloo, where he is part of the Fire Research Group. His research focuses on fire safety, particularly in relation to emerging hazards associated with battery energy storage, tall building architecture, and sustainable construction materials. Vinny earned his PhD from the University of Queensland in 2021, studying fire dynamics in large compartments within contemporary tall buildings. Following his PhD, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sydney from 2021 to 2024, developing advanced laser diagnostic techniques for investigating wall-bounded fires and the thermal runaway of lithium-ion battery cells.
