Dr. Violaine Jolivet

Biography

Violaine Jolivet is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the Université de Montréal, specializing in urban geography and mobility. Her research investigates the connections between transnational mobilities and urban fabric, focusing on issues of housing rights, urban displacement, and the experiences of marginalized communities and immigrant groups. She leads the TRAMES laboratory, dedicated to the study of transnationalism and metropolises. Her work encompasses comparative urbanism, particularly examining the impact of migration, tourism, and urban circulation on urban production in both the Global North and South. Jolivet employs varied research methodologies, including visual and sound techniques, to address complex issues linked to habitation and displacement. She is involved in significant research projects related to gentrification, privatization trends, and social exclusion within urban settings, reflecting her commitment to understanding and improving urban living conditions for diverse populations.
