Dr. Violetta Sagun

Biography

Violetta Sagun is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, specializing in theoretical particle physics, neutron stars, and multi-messenger astrophysics. She received her PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics from the Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics in Kyiv in 2015. Following her doctoral studies, she worked as a junior scientific researcher in the Department of High Energy Density Physics at the same institute. In December 2016, she joined the Center for Astrophysics and Gravitation (CENTRA) at the Instituto Superior Técnico as a postdoctoral researcher, where she began her focus on neutron stars. After returning to the Bogolyubov Institute for a brief period, she worked as an assistant researcher at the Centre for Physics of the University of Coimbra from 2019 to 2024. Starting in January 2025, she took on a new position as a Senior Researcher at the University of Southampton. Her research interests encompass neutron star properties, the dynamics of binary neutron star mergers, and the effects of dark matter within these compact objects. Violetta is actively involved in various collaborations, including the European Consortium for Astroparticle Theory (EuCAPT), the Einstein Telescope, LISA Collaboration, and the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope collaboration.
