Biography

Vipin Narang is the Frank Stanton Professor of Nuclear Security at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the inaugural director of MIT's Security Studies Program (SSP). He served in key positions in the U.S. Department of Defense, including as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy, overseeing essential areas such as nuclear and missile defense policy. Narang's interdisciplinary research focuses on nuclear proliferation strategies, especially in South Asia and North Korea. His acclaimed publications include 'Nuclear Strategy in the Modern Era' and 'Seeking the Bomb: Strategies of Nuclear Proliferation'. A recipient of the 2015 ISA International Security Studies Section Book Award, his work has been published in leading journals such as International Security and Foreign Affairs. Narang is noted for his contributions to understanding the implications of regional nuclear strategies on international stability. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University in Government and has held fellowships at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and Stanford University. His teaching includes courses on international relations theory and weapons of mass destruction proliferation.
