Biography

Virgil Adumitroaie received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1997, focusing on simulation modeling of high-speed turbulent reacting flows. He has six years of experience as a Senior Engineer at CFD Research Corporation in Huntsville, AL, before joining the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in 2004 as a Senior Member of the Technical Staff. He became an Adjunct Lecturer at USC in 2006. His research contributions include advanced modeling of compressible flows, direct numerical simulations of large eddy simulations (LES) of chemically reacting flows, and magnetohydrodynamics. He also specializes in decision support technology and modeling of giant planetary atmospheres and magnetospheres. Adumitroaie has developed optimization methods and uncertainty analysis techniques applicable to decision-making problems and has contributed to the development of the PEATE software for the Suomi NPP project. Currently, he serves as a Data Scientist, focusing on outer planetary environment modeling and radiation monitoring software for the Juno Mission. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses such as Energy Process Efficiency, Strength of Materials, Discrete Systems Simulation, and Engineering Economic Analysis.
