Dr. Virginia Rauh

Biography

Virginia Rauh is a professor at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, where she has been a faculty member since 1984. As Vice Chair of the Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health, her work primarily focuses on environmental epidemiology. Dr. Rauh's research emphasizes the adverse impacts of exposure to air pollutants, secondhand smoke, and pesticides on neurodevelopmental outcomes, particularly among socioeconomically disadvantaged minority populations. She has led numerous significant research projects, including a study on the effects of organophosphorus insecticides and the impact of secondhand smoke on brain health. Dr. Rauh has also investigated the consequences of prenatal exposure to air pollutants on children's development. Additionally, she has served on various national advisory committees, contributing her expertise to organizations such as the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the Environmental Protection Agency.
