Biography

Vivek Goel is a distinguished professor emeritus at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto and currently serves as the seventh President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waterloo. He obtained his medical degree from McGill University and completed his post-graduate training in Community Medicine at the University of Toronto, additionally earning an MSc in Community Health and a Master of Science in Biostatistics from Harvard University. His research primarily focuses on health services evaluation and the use of research evidence in health decision-making. He has held various administrative roles at the University, including Assistant Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics, Chair of the Department of Health Administration, and Vice-President, Research Innovation. Goel also played crucial roles during the COVID-19 crisis as a member of the COVID-19 Immunity Task Force and was also involved in developing the Pan-Canadian Health Data Strategy. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and a Member of the Order of Canada.
