Biography

Vivek Prabhakaran received combined medical doctoral degrees and completed his doctoral work in cognitive neuroscience and functional neuroimaging at Stanford Medical School. He underwent a combined residency-fellowship program in Neurology, Radiology, and Neuroradiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he earned board certifications in Radiology and Neurology. He joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin–Madison in July 2008 as a Professor of Neuroradiology, with affiliate appointments in Psychiatry, Neurology, and the Neuroscience Training Program. Prabhakaran's research laboratory focuses on developing fMRI multimodal neuroimaging methods and tools for translational research, involving the characterization and treatment of brain lesions, vascular lesions, stroke, tumors, and seizure pathology. His research accomplishments include multiple peer-reviewed journal publications in high-profile journals such as Nature, Neuroscience, and the Journal of Neurophysiology. Additionally, he has presented at numerous regional, national, and international meetings, making an impact in the scientific public arena and generating media coverage from organizations like NPR, BBC, CBS News, and Scientific American.
