Biography

Vivek Rao is the Associate Dean of Engineering Graduate Professional Programs and the Executive Director of Design & Technology Innovation Master's Program at Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering. He has extensive experience in engineering design theory and methodology, product design, development and innovation, and emerging technologies design. Prior to joining Duke, he was a professional faculty member at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, contributing to years of academic and research excellence. Vivek has authored and co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed articles in engineering design and has substantial experience in securing external and internal funding for his projects. His industry experience includes consulting for various clients, ranging from pre-seed startups to the Department of Defense. Furthermore, Vivek's innovation and R&D experience covers products, services, and organizational transformations in both the public and private sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
