Dr. Vivian Hoffmann

Biography

Vivian Hoffmann is an Associate Professor at Carleton University's School of Public Policy and Administration and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Economics. Her research primarily explores how information and social norms shape consumer behavior, particularly in the realms of food safety and greenhouse gas emissions. Dr. Hoffmann employs quantitative methods, field experiments, and randomized controlled trials to analyze consumer choices and agricultural practices. She has collaborated extensively across disciplines, engaging with microbiologists, agronomists, chemists, and epidemiologists. Before joining Carleton, she was a Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), where she continues to serve in a part-time role, co-leading the One Health Initiative, focusing on the intersections of animal, human, and environmental health in food systems. Her work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals, addressing critical issues such as agricultural contamination, food policy, and public health. Dr. Hoffmann is committed to advancing our understanding of food safety and nutrition within low and middle-income settings.
