Biography

Vivian Hook is a Professor at the University of California, San Diego, in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, San Francisco. Her research interests focus on the development of molecular probes and inhibitors for pathogenic proteins, particularly in relation to neurodegeneration, traumatic brain injury, and Alzheimer's Disease. She has led numerous NIH-funded research projects as a principal investigator, exploring topics such as human-specific cathepsin V protease production and the role of opioid-related peptide neurotransmitters in chronic pain and addiction. Dr. Hook has also investigated the biogenesis of exosomes and their secretion and trafficking in relation to Alzheimer's Disease, contributing significantly to understanding the neurotoxic effects of beta-amyloid. Her work includes various aspects of proteomics and genomics in relation to opiate analgesia and drug addiction. Dr. Hook has authored and co-authored extensively, collaborating on over 60 co-author publications as well as participating in clinical trials and other research activities.
