Biography

Vivianne Tawfik, MD, PhD is a board-certified Anesthesiologist specializing in Pain Medicine, focusing on the treatment of complex chronic pain disorders, including chronic post-operative pain and complex regional pain syndrome. She obtained her MD and PhD in Neuroscience from Dartmouth Medical School, where she studied basic pain mechanisms. Dr. Tawfik joined the Stanford Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine after completing her residency in anesthesiology and furthering her training through the Fellowship in Anesthesia Research and Medicine (FARM) program, where she now serves as Director. Her research endeavors center around the immune system's role in chronic pain and the factors that lead to persistent pain following minor injuries or surgeries. Beyond her clinical practice, she holds multiple administrative roles, including Associate Director for the Medical-Scientist Training Program at Stanford School of Medicine. Dr. Tawfik is also active in professional organizations and is the President-Elect of the Board of Directors for the International Anesthesia Research Society. In her free time, she enjoys science, sushi, and snowboarding.
