Vlad Denic is a Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University. His research focuses on the budding yeast S. cerevisiae as a model organism to harness the power of genetic screening and genomic analysis. His lab employs combined biochemical reconstitution approaches to dissect complex cell biological mechanisms that are conserved in humans. Historically, his laboratory has investigated several mechanisms including selective autophagy, the targeting and insertion of membrane proteins into organelles, and transcriptional control of protein folding within the cell. Additionally, they are utilizing genome-wide screens in mammalian cells with CRISPR/Cas9 technologies to uncover novel regulatory components and direct connections to human autophagy diseases.
