Biography

Vladimir Braverman is a Professor and Associate Head at the Department of Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University. His research focuses on the algorithmic practical aspects of large-scale machine learning applications and data science in healthcare. He also holds a without-salary appointment in the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging at the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and serves as a visiting researcher at Google Research. Braverman previously led a research group at HyperRoll, a startup known for providing fast solutions in financial analytics, which was acquired by Oracle in 2009. He specializes in efficient and provable methods, tools, and algorithms for massive datasets with applications in large-scale machine learning, software-defined networks, medical imaging, and cosmological simulations. Over his career, he has published more than 100 articles on these topics, with research partially funded by the National Science Foundation, DARPA, the Office of Naval Research, and the National Institutes of Health. He has received numerous awards, including the NSF Early CAREER Award and the Google Faculty Award. His contributions have been recognized with multiple accolades at international conferences, including a Paper Award at the USENIX Conference on File Storage Technologies in 2019 and a Silver Paper Award at the International Conference on Machine Learning workshop on adversarial machine learning in 2021.
