Biography

Vladimir V. Galvita is an Associate Professor at the Laboratory for Chemical Technology at Ghent University, Belgium. His research is primarily focused on understanding fundamental relationships between structure and composition in heterogeneous catalysts and their performance. He studies reaction mechanisms to identify factors that limit the activity and selectivity of catalysts. His objectives are pursued through a combination of experimental methods, including spectroscopic techniques such as IR, Raman, UV-Visible, and EXAFS, which are used to characterize catalyst structures and adsorbed species under actual catalytic conditions. Furthermore, he employs transient kinetics, isotopic tracers, and temperature-programmed desorption reaction techniques to elucidate the pathways of catalyzed reactions. Galvita's research also explores the conversion of methane and light alkenes to alcohols and higher hydrocarbons, as well as dehydrogenation of light alkanes and alkenes, catalytic reforming, cracking processes, and combustion reactions. Additionally, his work includes interests in chemical looping and energy storage processes.
