Biography

Professor Vladimir Ladizhansky is a renowned expert in the field of biophysics, serving as the director of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Centre at the University of Guelph. His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of proteins as they perform various functions, particularly how proteins associate with cell membranes and their roles in cell signaling and membrane transport. Utilizing solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance as a primary tool, Prof. Ladizhansky aims to provide atomic-level insight into protein structure and dynamics. His program encompasses a broad range of topics, including quantum mechanics, spin interactions, molecular biology, biochemistry, and the development of novel NMR techniques. He has actively contributed to the advancement of knowledge in the interactions between membrane proteins, lipids, and water in biological membranes, which has implications for drug development against diseases such as heart ailments. Prof. Ladizhansky completed his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Physics at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel and conducted his postdoctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining the University of Guelph.
