Professor Dr. Vladimir Michaelis

Biography

Vladimir Michaelis is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Alberta, where he holds the Canada Research Chair in Magnetic Resonance and Advanced Materials. His research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of innovative inorganic materials for applications in optoelectronics, solid-state ionic conduction, and energy generation. With a keen interest in materials science, he employs various physical and analytical chemistry techniques, including NMR spectroscopy, to investigate the atomic-level structures of nanomaterials and disordered solids. Michaelis leads the Magnetic Resonance facility at the University, which hosts advanced solid-state NMR spectrometers, including Western Canada’s only high-field DNP NMR system. He is dedicated to mentoring students in both graduate and undergraduate research, emphasizing skills in chemical synthesis and characterization. Michaelis's notable contributions to the field include publications on materials chemistry and energy storage systems, highlighting his role in advancing knowledge in sustainable energy solutions.
