Dr. Vladimir Muzykantov

Biography

Vladimir R. Muzykantov is a Founders Professor specializing in Nanoparticle Research at the Institute of Medical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He holds dual degrees in M.D. (Internal Medicine) from Moscow Medical School and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the National Cardiology Research Center. His expertise lies in drug and gene targeting, particularly within vascular biology. His research addresses surface antigens on normal and pathologically altered endothelial cells and explores various aspects of vascular inflammation, oxidative stress, and endothelial injury. He is focused on developing targeted drug delivery systems using innovative methodologies, including using red blood cells for site-specific delivery, enhancing the biocompatibility of drug conjugates and optimizing their therapeutic impact. Additionally, his work involves the characterization of endothelium-specific antigens, mechanisms of drug trafficking, and the control of drug action within subcellular compartments, aiming to improve the efficacy and safety of therapeutic interventions in vascular conditions. He is a member of several medical and pharmacological institutions and has contributed extensively to the field through research and publications.
