Biography

Vladimir Wingate is a postdoctoral researcher in the Sustainable Land Management Group at the Institute of Geography, University of Bern, Switzerland. He received his PhD in Geography from the University of Basel’s Department of Environmental Sciences, specializing in Physical Geography and Environmental Change. Following his PhD, he completed a postdoctoral position at the University of Zurich in their Remote Sensing group. He holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management from the University of Stirling and a Bachelor of Science in Tropical Environmental Science from the University of Aberdeen. Vladimir's research focuses on mapping ecological changes in tropical and arctic mountain biomes using satellite-based near-surface remote sensing imagery. His developed change maps provide quantitative data on global change processes including deforestation, land degradation, and climate change. His extensive field experience spans continents including Africa, Australia, and Europe where he has engaged in several biodiversity monitoring and management projects. He is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and has intermediate proficiency in German.
