Biography

Volker Grabowsky has been a professor for Thai Language and Culture since the winter semester of 2009. He heads the Department of Southeast Asian Languages and Cultures at the Asia-Africa Institute of the University of Hamburg. His research focuses on the history and culture of ethnic Thai groups in Southeast Asia, as well as in Southwest China. He has a keen interest in Laotian language and culture, laotian Buddhism, and the manuscript cultures of Lan Na, Laos, and Sipsong Panna. Additionally, he studies modern Cambodian history, contributing significantly to the understanding of these regions' cultural and historical dynamics.
