Biography

Professor Gümmer's research interests encompass aerodynamic optimization of compressors and turbines, the development of technology for future propulsion systems, and innovative design concepts for gas turbine components and systems. He has contributed to the development of novel heat exchange architectures for both small and large gas turbines. Professor Gümmer received his diploma degree from TU Braunschweig in 1991 and subsequently worked as a development engineer at BMW Rolls-Royce. In 2000, he founded a company and was adopted by the Rolls-Royce corporation. He has been actively involved in turbomachinery research since 1999 and completed his doctorate degree at TU Munich, focusing on sweep dihedral axial compressor aerofoils. His work includes the development of aero engines like the V2500 Select, BR725, and TP400, which have made impacts in the international aviation market. Professor Gümmer has held various technical management positions at Rolls-Royce in Germany, most recently as Chief CFD Methods Aerothermal Technology and Associate Fellow Compression Systems. In 2016, he was appointed to the Chair of Turbomachinery Flight Propulsion at TUM.
