Dr. Volker Kuchelmeister

Biography

Volker Kuchelmeister is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Art & Design at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia. He is an accomplished academic and researcher in the fields of immersive media, interactive design, and visualisation technologies. His current focus includes the development of innovative immersive applications and interactive installations that explore the boundaries of visual representation. Over the years, Kuchelmeister has established and directed several leading media-art research labs, particularly at ZKM Centre for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany, and the UNSW iCinema Centre. His interdisciplinary approach combines elements of performing arts, virtual reality, and interactive systems, culminating in numerous exhibitions worldwide. He has received substantial funding totaling AUD 1.5M for various projects and has collaborated with institutions globally, contributing to advancements in immersive visualization, computer-generated content, and VR training simulations. His works, which span augmented reality applications and experimental video projects, have been recognized in esteemed venues such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
