Dr. Volker Sick

Biography

Volker Sick is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan, where he also serves as the DTE Energy Professor of Advanced Energy Research and the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor. He has a strong focus on accelerating the deployment of CO2-utilization technologies to innovate existing infrastructure and manufacturing processes, with the aim of finding sustainable solutions to help address the climate crisis. His research includes the development and application of optical measurement techniques for diagnosing diseases of the human eye. Sick has received numerous honors for his contributions to education and engineering, including the Royal Society of Chemistry Spiers Memorial Lecture Award and the ASME Internal Combustion Engine Award. He has actively contributed to various leadership roles, such as serving as a member of the NASEM Committee on carbon utilization. With his extensive research background and dedication to education, he continues to be a leading figure in the field of mechanical engineering.
