Biography

Voon Wee Yong is a Professor at the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine, where he leads the Multiple Sclerosis Brain Mental Health Team at the Hotchkiss Brain Institute. He serves as a Full Member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and an Associate Member of the Calvin, Phoebe Joan Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases, as well as a member of the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute. Dr. Yong has a distinguished career focusing on neuroimmunology, neuroprotection, and central nervous system regeneration, particularly related to multiple sclerosis and brain tumors. He has published over 340 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has been instrumental in translating research into Phase II and III clinical trials for multiple sclerosis, as well as initiating a Phase I/IIa trial for glioblastoma. His work is well-cited, with an h-index of 102 according to Google Scholar and 18,000 citations according to Web of Science. Dr. Yong has been recognized as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and the Royal Society of Canada and received the Allyn Taylor International Prize in Medicine for his transformative discoveries in multiple sclerosis. He has also served as the past chair of the Medical Advisory Committee for the MS Society of Canada and continues to promote the field of neuroimmunology on a global scale.
