Biography

Professor Vrinda Narain’s research and teaching focus on constitutional law, social diversity, and feminist legal theory. She is the author of several books including 'Reclaiming the Nation: Muslim Women and the Law in India' and 'Gender Community: Muslim Women’s Rights in India'. A recipient of the Canadian Institute for Administration of Justice’s Charles D. Gonthier Research Fellowship in 2017, Narain served as the Associate Dean, Academic, at McGill University from 2016 to 2019. Her community involvement includes serving on the executive board of Women Living Under Muslim Laws and as President of the South Asian Women’s Community Centre in Montreal. Her research interests also encompass postcolonial studies in law and critical race theory, and she has published numerous articles discussing contemporary issues such as the intersection of gender equality and religious freedom in the context of Muslim women's rights.
