Biography

Wahyu Kuncoro is a Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies at the University of Zurich. He received the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship and has been under the supervision of Professor Annuska Derks for his PhD program since 2018. Wahyu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia and a Master’s degree in Development Studies from Chiang Mai University in Thailand. He has been awarded various fellowships, including a student fellowship at the Asia Research Institute at the National University of Singapore in 2013 and the Erasmus+ scholarship for a student mobility program at Radboud University in the Netherlands in 2017. Wahyu’s research interests include Historical Anthropology, Ethnicity, Transnationalism, and Islam Mission, with a focus on Southeast Asia, particularly Cambodia, Thailand, and Indonesia. His publications include a monograph titled "Burmese-Muslim Social Networks in Borderland: Case Study of Islam Bamroong Muslim Community Mae Sot, Tak Province, Thailand," published by Chiang Mai University Press in 2018, and a contribution to an edited volume on social networking in religious spaces.
