Biography

Geoffrey Chan received a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Engineering degrees from Carleton University, followed by a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has previously worked at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and McGill University in Montreal, along with Bell Northern Research (Nortel) Communications Research Centre in Ottawa. His industry experience includes digital signal processing (DSP) algorithm development and integrated circuit design. Dr. Chan’s research interests focus on various aspects of digital signal processing and applications in machine learning, particularly in relation to speech signals and health-related data analytics. He has served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, as well as for the EURASIP Journal on Audio, Speech, and Music Processing. Additionally, he is a member of the IEEE Signal Processing Society and has held significant roles in academic program committees. He received the U.S. National Science Foundation CAREER award, highlighting his contributions to research and teaching in electrical and computer engineering.
