Dr. Wai Yee

Biography

Wai Ling Yee holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Windsor. Her primary area of research is Pure Mathematics, focusing on the study of representations of Lie algebras and Lie groups from an algebraic combinatorial viewpoint. She is part of an international group of mathematicians known as the Atlas of Lie Groups Representations, which is dedicated to addressing the Unitary Dual Problem—a major unresolved issue since the 1930s. The Unitary Dual Problem is integral to a wide-ranging program of abstract harmonic analysis originally introduced by I.M. Gelfand. Gelfand's work serves as a powerful generalization of Fourier analysis that applies to problems across various disciplines, including number theory, mathematical physics, and topology. Yee's contributions to the field include important publications in prestigious mathematical journals, reflecting her expertise and influence in the areas of invariant Hermitian forms and Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.
