Dr. Wallace Fowler has been a faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin since 1965, holding the rank of Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. He has made significant contributions to the field of aerospace engineering, particularly in dynamics, orbital mechanics, flight mechanics, spacecraft design, and mission planning. A graduate of the University of Texas, Dr. Fowler earned a BA in Mathematics in 1960, followed by an MS and PhD in Engineering Mechanics. He has received numerous accolades for his teaching excellence, including the 1998 Texas Excellence Teaching Award and the 1994 ASEE Fred Merryfield Design Education Award. He was also recognized with the title of Fellow in both the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the American Society for Engineering Education. Throughout his career, Dr. Fowler has been actively involved in NASA’s Apollo program and has co-authored basic engineering textbooks on Statics and Dynamics. Currently, he focuses on spacecraft mission design research, including Earth orbital missions, lunar missions, and planetary exploration. His leadership roles have included serving as Associate Director of the Texas Space Grant Consortium and as President of the American Society for Engineering Education from 2000 to 2001.
