Dr. Walter Reisner

Biography

Walter Reisner is a Full Professor in the Department of Physics at McGill University and serves as an Associate Member in the Department of Bioengineering. His research program straddles the fields of nanotechnology and soft-matter/biophysics, focusing on the development of nanofluidic devices. These devices include networks of fluid-filled structures, nanochannels, and nanopores with dimensions ranging from 1 to 100 nanometers. They facilitate the analysis and manipulation of single biomolecules and bioparticles, allowing for molecular amplification that enables the interrogation of disease and critical biological heterogeneity that is often obscured by traditional methods that average out disparate cells, particles, or molecules. Professor Reisner is also dedicated to developing new types of nanofluidic tools to elucidate fundamental soft-matter physics and biophysical questions arising in the context of nanoconfined systems. His research areas include Medical Diagnostics and Therapeutics in the scope of Nanotechnology.
