Biography

Waqas Khan is a soil scientist whose research focuses on soil-plant interactions and abiotic stresses affecting crop production. He earned his PhD in Soil Science in 2015, with his dissertation addressing innovative strategies for mitigating soil salinity in maize through silicon nutrition. Since 2016, he has expanded his research domain through significant funding for national projects, primarily concentrating on the effects of biochar and silicon on soil salinity, particularly in wheat and rice crops. His contributions include using biochar as a nutrient carrier and examining its impact on root growth through advanced techniques like microelectrode ion flux measurement. Currently an Adjunct Research Fellow at the School of Biological Sciences at UWA, Waqas investigates environmental factors influencing crop production in Western Australia. Additionally, he is an Assistant Professor at Government College University in Lahore, Pakistan, where he teaches and supervises postgraduate students. His teaching is recognized for being student-centered and engaging, leading to several awards, including a Gold Medal for outstanding performance in teaching and research and an Associate Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy in the UK.
