Biography

Warren M. Garrison is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his B.S. in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by an M.S. in Physics from the University of California, Davis. He obtained his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of California, Berkeley. His career includes significant roles as a research engineer at the University of California, Berkeley, and years at Sandia Laboratories in Livermore before joining Carnegie Mellon in 1984. His research interests focus on fracture deformation, structure-property relationships, and alloy development, specifically in developing new shaft alloys for General Electric Aviation and ultra-high strength stainless steels for aircraft landing gear. Garrison has been recognized as a Fellow of ASM since 1994 and has served as an associate editor for Metallurgical Materials Transactions. He holds five patents related to alloy development and was made a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Metals in 2010.
