Warren Wilson is a scientist who studies how people's health is influenced by culture, environment, and evolutionary history, particularly in low- to middle-income countries. He began his career investigating health issues among children in a Colombian city and dietary practices among an Indigenous group in the Colombian Amazon, as well as the health of Indigenous mothers and children in Guyana’s interior. Dr. Wilson's work highlights the ways in which lifestyle impacts health outcomes. Between 2011 and 2013, he collaborated with colleagues in Tanzania and the United States to explore the drivers of inflammation in young Tanzanian children, with an interest in understanding how elevated inflammation can indicate near- and long-term health risks. From 2014 to 2023, he worked alongside colleagues in Nicaragua to examine the relationship between various predictors of health and to develop a model capturing the burden of chronic environmental challenges on health. His current projects involve collaborating with Canadian and Dominican colleagues to address similar health-related questions in the Dominican Republic. The overarching goal of his research is to identify barriers to maternal and child health and to develop new, evidence-based, locally relevant solutions.
