Dr. Wassim El Ahmar

Biography

Wassim El Ahmar is an expert in machine learning and computer vision with eight years of experience spanning academia and industry applied research. He specializes in developing and optimizing AI systems for real-world applications and possesses expertise in computer vision, sensor fusion, and generative models for multi-modal large language models. Currently, he is a senior machine learning engineer at Inspiren, where he leads the design of lightweight and efficient vision models for edge computing, integrating cutting-edge vision foundation models to enhance system performance. Previously, he held roles at Strong Analytics and Tempo Analytics, where he developed machine learning solutions for manufacturing quality inspection, autonomous vehicle perception, anomaly detection in IoT, and multi-object tracking systems. Alongside his industry contributions, Wassim serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa in a long-term appointment, teaching courses that range from programming to data structures, software engineering, and interaction design. He has presented his academic research at top venues such as CVPR and ECCV, advancing techniques in thermal-RGB sensor fusion and multiple object tracking. He holds a PhD in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Ottawa, with his doctoral work focusing on robust perception using thermal-RGB sensory data.
