Dr. Wayne Parker

Biography

Wayne J. Parker is a Professor in the Civil Environmental Engineering department, cross-appointed to the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He is affiliated with several professional organizations including Professional Engineers Ontario, Water Environment Association Ontario, and the Water Environment Federation. His research focuses on nutrient recovery from wastewaters, the operation of anaerobic membrane bioreactors for wastewater treatment, and the management of emerging contaminants within wastewater systems. His work addresses advanced processes in sludge digestion and the planning of pre-treatment strategies to enhance biogas production. Throughout his career, Professor Parker has secured funding from notable agencies such as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, Envirosim, and Environment Canada. He has received several awards highlighting his contributions to environmental engineering, including the Water Environment Federation Willem Rudolfs Medal and the Province of Ontario’s Premier’s Research Excellence Award. Wayne is also active in several research committees and has extensively published in the field, contributing to the ongoing development of modern environmental engineering education and practices.
