Wayne Rebhorn is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Texas at Austin, holding the Mildred Hayek Vacek John Roman Vacek Chair in English. His scholarship delves into the social and political dimensions of literature and rhetoric, particularly during the European Renaissance. He has authored, translated, edited, and co-edited ten books and over twenty-five scholarly articles focusing on figures such as Boccaccio, Rabelais, DuBellay, Shakespeare, and Milton. Notably, he received the Modern Language Association's Marraro Prize in 1990 for his book on Italian literature, "Foxes and Lions: Machiavelli's Confidence Men," and has been invited to lecture at major universities across the United States and Europe, including France, Italy, and Germany. His recent works include a new translation of Boccaccio's "Decameron" (Norton, 2013) and the Norton Critical Edition (2016). He is currently finishing a new edition of Machiavelli's "Prince" and is working on a translation of Castiglione's "Book of the Courtier." Rebhorn was awarded the PEN Center USA's Literary Award for Translation in 2014 for his work on the "Decameron."
